Collin Forbes Memorial Bike-In Movie Series #2, “The Kid with a Bike”
April 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
We continue our Collin Forbes Memorial Bike-In Movie Series with The Kid with a Bike (French: Le gamin au vélo), a 2011 drama set in Seraing, Belgium.
Movie synopsis: Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, the deeply moving film by the Dardenne brothers delves into the emotional life of troubled 11-year-old Cyril (Thomas Doret). When his father (Jérémie Renier) abandons him, Cyril obsessively searches for his bicycle – placing his last bit of hope in this symbol of their relationship. Almost by accident, he becomes the ward of a kind hairdresser (Cécile de France), who seems surprised to find herself so determined to help him. With his wild, unpredictable behavior and his disastrous search for father figures, Cyril risks losing her – though she refuses to give up without a fight.
If this is your first time joining us for the Bike-In movie series, here’s what to expect: The Estate of local cycling advocate Collin Forbes donated a completely portable large-screen, outdoor movie set-up that allows us to bike around to different locations around town to show you great bike-themed movies in public places, like parks. Every part of the movie set-up is portable and off the grid.
Can you see the movie? Yes. It is projected on a giant, 11-foot wide screen.
Can you hear the movie? Yes. We bring portable loud speakers.
You will need to bring: a blanket or something comfortable to sit on, snacks (some to share is nice too), and anything else you need to be comfortable.
This is truly a unique, fun, community-minded series of events you won’t want to miss. Tell all your friends and come find the Bike-In movie in a park near you!
Location: Alvernon Park (3900 E. 3rd Street) – easily accessible by bike along the 3rd Street Bike Boulevard
